Introduction

Many Arabian Gulf States have started to offer e-learning centers at universities and secondary schools to facilitate accessibility to learning and to utilize technology effectively. Hence, the idea to launch an award of excellence in offering and designing e-courses came up to achieve academic excellence and the following objectives:

  • Create an environment of competition to design e-courses
  • Disseminate awareness of e-culture
  • To enhance all efforts to integrate technology in designing academic courses
  • To encourage all individuals involved in e-learning to be creative and innovative
  • To create an environment of cooperation among all participants
  • To develop evaluative skills to achieve quality and excellence in elearning

The Award was proposed to the Sixth Meeting for e-Learning Officials at the Universities of the GCC States in order to achieve these goals.

How to Apply to the Award
  • The Organizing Committee will annually announce the launching of the Award , one year before the meeting is held.
  • The Award winners will be notified in a public celebration to be decided by the Committee.
  • If more than once person applied for one e-course, the award will be equally divided to them.

The Award will be given to 5 participants in the following
manner:

  • The first winner will be awarded 5,000 BD
  • The second winner will be awarded 4,000 BD
  • The third winner will be awarded 3,000 BD
  • The fourth winner will be awarded 2,000 BD
  • The fifth winner will be awarded 1,000 BD

A certificate will also be granted to each winner.
Dates for receiving applications and final submission will be announced by the committee.

General Conditions
  • Candidates must be a staff member of any GCC States staff or Higher education staff.
  • The course must be an academic course and part of the academic plan of the academic departments
  • The course must comply with the educational and academic criteria.
  • Candidates must have developed and designed the course himself not through the designers of Educational Technology or e-learning Center designers
  • Candidates who developed and designed the in cooperation with the designers of Educational Technology department or e-learning Center designers wilbe eligible for the second and third award.
  • The e-Course should be available online to be accessible for all jury members and a CD copy given to students should be sent to the Award General Secretariat at Zain e-Learning Center.
  • The course must contain audio and video illustrations and any multimedia enrichment.
  • The e-course submitted for the award must not be subject to intellectual property by publishers.
  • The course must reveal genuine and innovative features in
    terms of content and educational materials.
Submission
  • Candidates must submit a hard and a soft copy of the course before 30th tJune 2010.
  • The Jury will select the best 10 courses for nominations
  • More than once candidate may apply for one course and the award will be divided between them.
  • The winning course(s) will be posted online for perusal
